Income Supplement to the Senior Citizen Pension (2026): who qualifies and how much

Last reviewed: · How we check information

In short

  • An addition Bituach Leumi pays to people receiving the senior citizen (old-age) pension who have low income (תוספת השלמת הכנסה).
  • With the supplement, the pension reaches up to ₪4,375 for a single person and ₪6,912 for a couple (under 70, from January 2026).
  • Immigrants who arrived after age 62 (men) or retirement age (women) receive a special senior citizen benefit, with the same supplement on top.
  • The supplement is not always added automatically. You have to file a claim, and it is paid from the month you apply. If you already receive a pension, up to 12 months back.

Who qualifies

  • People receiving the senior citizen or survivors' pension, and immigrants receiving the special senior citizen benefit.
  • Your and your spouse's monthly income is low (details below).
  • Savings, deposits and provident funds up to ₪41,528 for a single person or ₪62,292 for a couple.
  • No car, or one car worth less than ₪65,343 by the price list. With a more expensive car or two cars you qualify only in some cases.
  • Members of a kibbutz or cooperative moshav do not qualify.

How income counts

  • A pension of up to ₪1,790 for a single person or ₪2,823 for a couple does not affect the supplement. Anything above is deducted from it.
  • Earnings of up to ₪3,236 for a single person or ₪3,786 for a couple do not affect it. Above that, 60% of the difference is deducted.
  • Long-term care payments, from Bituach Leumi or private insurance, do not count as income. Neither does the annual grant from the Holocaust Survivors' Rights Authority.
  • People with a small pension (up to ₪3,346 single or ₪5,274 couple) who first joined pension insurance from January 2008 can apply with a confirmation from their pension fund, and the claim is checked under special rules.

Immigrants who arrived after retirement age

People who first immigrated to Israel after age 62 (men) or retirement age (women) are not insured for the senior citizen pension. They can receive a special senior citizen benefit funded by the Ministry of Finance. It equals the basic old-age pension, and the income supplement is checked and paid on the same terms.

With the special benefit, income is checked even after age 70. The absorption basket, subsistence payments for immigrants, child allowance and care hours do not count as income. You apply with your immigrant certificate (teudat oleh), with the supplement claim attached.

How to apply

  1. Fill in the income supplement claim on the Bituach Leumi website, or attach it to your senior citizen pension claim.
  2. Send it with the documents online, by post, by fax or via the branch service box.
  3. The supplement is paid from the month you apply. If you already receive a pension, you can get up to 12 months back.

Frequently asked questions

Why didn't I get the supplement automatically?

Bituach Leumi has to check income and assets, so you usually need to file a claim. If your income fell after your pension started, you can apply then too.

I have a small pension. Do I still qualify?

Possibly. A pension of up to ₪1,790 for a single person does not affect the supplement. Above that, the supplement shrinks gradually rather than disappearing.

I work. Does that cancel the supplement?

Not necessarily. Earnings up to ₪3,236 a month for a single person do not touch it, and above that only 60% of the difference is deducted.
