Child allowance in Israel in 2026: amount per child, who is paid and the savings plan
In short
- The child allowance (kitzvat yeladim) is paid to Israeli resident parents for each child under 18, whatever their income.
- The amount depends on the child's place in the family (2026): ₪173 for the first, ₪219 for the second, third and fourth, and ₪173 for the fifth and later. For three children: ₪611 a month.
- On top of that, Bituach Leumi puts ₪58 a month into a savings plan for each child, and parents can double it from the allowance.
- After a hospital birth the allowance starts automatically.
How much
| Child | Amount |
|---|---|
| first | ₪173 |
| second, third and fourth | ₪219 |
| fifth and later | ₪173 |
A parent receiving income support, alimony through Bituach Leumi, or a senior or survivors' pension with the income supplement gets another ₪113 for the third and fourth child. A parent's debt to Bituach Leumi may be taken from the allowance.
Savings for every child
- Bituach Leumi deposits ₪58 a month for each child the allowance is paid for, in a bank or a provident fund chosen by the parents.
- Parents can add another ₪58 from the child allowance, so ₪116 a month is saved.
- You can choose and change where the money is saved and the track. Ask the bank or fund about withdrawals — no need to pay anyone to help.
Who is paid and until when
- Parents living together: the mother, into an account in her name or a joint account.
- Divorced or separated parents: the mother, unless the children live only with the father. It can go to the other parent by agreement or court order. If the children are split between parents, ask to split the file.
- A child born by the 15th of the month is paid from that month; from the 16th, from the next month. The allowance runs until the end of the month the child turns 18.
When you need to claim
- After a hospital birth in Israel you don't: at a first birth you give the hospital the mother's or a joint bank account.
- Home birth, birth abroad, adoption, a child who immigrated without parents or a child with a guardian: claim online, by post or at a branch.
- Claim within 12 months. After that you are paid only for the 12 months before the claim.
