Work Disability Benefit in Israel (2026): monthly pension or one-time grant
In short
- A Bituach Leumi benefit (נכות מעבודה) for people injured at work who are left with a disability. You can claim even if you went back to work.
- Permanent disability of 20% or more: a monthly pension. 9%–19.99%: a one-time grant. Temporary disability from 9%: a pension.
- The pension is based on your pay before the injury and the disability percentage. Other income does not reduce it.
- Claim within 12 months of the injury, ideally close to the end of the injury allowance period.
How much is paid
- 100% disability: the daily injury allowance times 30, up to ₪39,428 a month (2026).
- Below 100%: that percentage of the amount. For example, 50% disability pays half.
- Grant: the monthly pension times 43.
- People injured before age 21 get an increased grant, as if they had earned the average wage (₪13,769).
How the committee sets the percentage
- Each impairment has a set percentage in the regulations. For example, limited neck movement: 10%, 20% or 30%, depending on severity.
- Several impairments are combined by a weighted method, not added: 20% plus 10% gives 28%.
- An impairment that existed before the injury and is documented is deducted.
- If the disability prevents a return to your previous work and your income fell by more than 20%, the committee can raise the percentage up to 1.5 times ("Regulation 15").
- If you cannot work at all and have no income, you can ask to be recognised as a "needy disabled person": a temporary 100% for up to 4 months.
How to claim
- Fill in the work disability claim and attach recent medical documents.
- Attend the medical committee, which sets the disability percentage.
- The decision appears in your personal area. The pension is paid on the 28th of each month.

If you disagree or your condition gets worse
- Appeal to the medical appeals committee within 30 days. If the committee is considering lowering the percentage, you can withdraw the appeal.
- The appeals committee's decision can be challenged only on a point of law, at the Labour Court, within 60 days.
- Worsening: 6 months after the disability was set, with a worsening certificate from an authorised health fund doctor or a hospital discharge letter.
Paid help
If you use a rights company or a lawyer, the law caps the fee. A company may charge up to 11.25% of the pension for the first 60 months (13% of a grant) plus a file-opening fee of up to ₪961. A lawyer who represents you at the committee may charge up to 15.75% (16% of a grant) plus the file-opening fee. VAT is added to all amounts.
Good to know
- Permanent disability of 20% or more entitles you to a disability card.
- With high disability or limited leg mobility there are also special allowances and grants.
- You can also claim private loss-of-working-capacity insurance and a disability pension from your pension fund. These are separate rights.
Frequently asked questions
I went back to work. Do I still qualify?
Yes. You can claim even if you returned to work or never missed work. Income does not affect the pension.
I received a grant and my condition got worse. What now?
If the reassessment sets 20% or more, you get a monthly pension, and the grant you received is offset against it.
I had several work accidents.
In some cases the disability percentages from several accidents can be combined to increase the total.
